Child Sponsorship

Questions and Answers

1. What does it mean to be a child sponsor?

As a child sponsor, you give a child a chance to break the cycle of poverty and hardship that surrounds his/her life. Even more, you open the door for your child to learn about God and reach his/her potential in life.

2.  What are my options in the Child Sponsorship Program?

There are three options to choose from in our Child Sponsorship Program:

  1. Education Sponsor   For $35 a month, you can give a child a chance to go to school. Your sponsorship will provide your child with school fees, a school uniform, sportswear, shoes, hot lunches, and school supplies.

  2. Boarding Sponsor   For $35 a month, you can stand with a child who has an education sponsor but also needs a boarding sponsor.  Boarding school is not necessary for all our children, but it is for those who are in crisis or live where there is not a good school nearby.  As a boarding sponsor, you will provide your child with housing, tutoring, bedding, hygiene supplies and extra meals.

  3. Education/Boarding Sponsor For $70 a month, you can sponsor both the education and the boarding needs of a child.

3. What do I do to become a child sponsor?

All you have to do to become a child sponsor is to fill out the EWT Child Sponsorship Form and submit it to us along with your first payment. You can do this online, by mail, or by calling us.

4. What are my payment options?

Please note that we have three options for you to set up your sponsorship donations:

  1. Arrange an automatic monthly bank draft. This is the easiest and most preferred way. You can set this up by submitting the online Child Sponsorship Form and making your first payment. We will then call you to set up the bank draft.

  2. Pay online. You can make an annual payment or set upa monthly recurring payment.

  3. Pay by check. You can do this by submitting the Child Sponsorship Form (either online or by mail), and then mailing your check to our home office for your first payment. Please designate on the form whether you would like to pay monthly, quarterly, or annually.

If you are unsure which payment method is most suitable for you, please contact us to discuss payment options.

5. How long does a child sponsorship last?

There is no contract involved in our child sponsorship program. However, we request that child sponsors sign up with the intention of an ongoing commitment. It is our hope that many of our sponsors will support their child throughout their primary and secondary years, but we realize that this is not always possible.

6. What do I receive from you if I am a child sponsor?

We will keep you connected with your child by providing you with the following:

  • An initial packet containing a photo and information sheet about your child
  • Letters from your child (at least 2 per year)
  • An annual update and photo

7. Can I correspond with my child?

Yes, we encourage you to do this. You can't imagine the joy your child feels when he/she hears from you. It is especially nice for your child to receive a Christmas card and picture from you.

Please send your letters to: EWT Ministries, 119 W. Broad St., Statesville, NC28677.

We will deliver your mail when we travel to Uganda, which is at least three times a year. By doing this, we can ensure that your letter reaches your child and is not lost through the postal system. The postal system in Uganda is not always reliable.

8. Can I visit my child?

Yes! It would be the biggest thrill for your child and give you a chance to see firsthand how you are positively impacting your child's life.

9. Can I send a gift to my child?

We request that you do not send a gift directly to your child as we work hard to create an environment of fairness where gifts are concerned. However, we would be most grateful if you would like to give an extra contribution at Christmas to provide a gift for your child's family.

10. How are children selected for this program?

Our EWT staff works in communities that have suffered from the war in Northern Uganda. These are places where people have experienced great loss and are struggling for even the most essential things for life. Children with the greatest need are selected for the program. While most of our children are between ages four and nine, we also prayerfully make exceptions for older boys and girls.
